چکیده

* Email: [email protected]. Abstract – Spectrum matching is one approach to estimating water quality parameter concentrations (chlorophyll a, tripton and coloured dissolved organic matter (CDOM)) from remotely sensed images of inland waters. The Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO) is a stochastic search technique that can be used to search the solution space for the closest match and deliver the best estimate of the water quality parameter concentrations. For Burdekin Falls Dam, a tropical freshwater impoundment, the PSO and four different matching criteria were applied to MERIS images to retrieve the water quality parameters. The mean retrieval error of the best performed similarity measure was 2.0 μgl, 2.45 mgl and 0.3 m for chlorophyll a, tripton and CDOM respectively. The paper found that the PSO, as implemented in this case, did not offer improvements in accuracy and precision sufficient enough to justify the increased computational overhead in the inversion.

Analysis of MERIS Reflectance Algorithms for Estimating Chlorophyll-a Concentration in a Brazilian Reservoir

Chlorophyll-a (chl-a) is a central water quality parameter that has been estimated through remote sensing bio-optical models. This work evaluated the performance of three well established reflectance based bio-optical algorithms to retrieve chl-a from in situ hyperspectral remote sensing reflectance datasets collected during three field campaigns in the Funil reservoir (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)....

Object Level Strategy for Spectral Quality Assessment of High Resolution Pan-sharpen Images

Panchromatic and multi-spectral images produced by the remote sensing satellites are fused together to provide a multi-spectral image with a high spatial resolution at the same time. The spectral quality of the fused images is very important because the quality of a large number of remote sensing products depends on it. Due to the importance of the spectral quality of the fused images, its eval...

Inland wetlands mapping and vulnerability assessment using an integrated geographic information system and remote sensing techniques

The understanding of inland wetlands’ distribution and their level of vulnerability is important to enhance management and conservation efforts. The aim of the study was to map inland wetlands and assess their distribution pattern and vulnerability to natural and human disturbances such as climate change (temperature increase) and human activities by the year 2080. Inland wetland types i.e. for...
